my husband discovered this bee colony(?) near our neighbor's driveway today while he was mowing the grass. i've never actually seen a whole mass of bees like this out in the open, usually they are in a nest or hive or whatever. very cool. i'm sure some of these must be the same ones that visit my garden.
and here are my babies on the yellow asclepia i recently planted. so cute! they are very small, fingernail cuttings size. thank god for macro settings!

That's cool. I've never seen bees out like that.
That is a pretty classic photo of a swarm. It may be from a wild hive of bees or a swarm escaped from a beekeeper's hive. Keeper work to reduce swarming because they want to keep their bees in their hives producing honey.
If they are a problem for you or neighbor---your parish Extension office should be able to put you in touch with a beekeeper who can collect the swarm.
I love the caterpillar photos. I'm just waiting for something to find the dill and parsley I planted.
Wow, that is wonderful...glad you aren't bothered by this gift!

A good swarm. Did they go off by themselves, or did a beekeeper come for them?
We had a big swarm in the playground at a school I worked at, and it was an amazing thing to see. The beekeeper was delighted to get a free swarm!
Wow, cool photos! I've never seen bees like that either...but I would back up very slowly and get the heck outta there if I did!:)
What an awesome scene of the bees.
holy mother! I would have freaked if I saw that, especially as I was mowing. I think I have read too many stories about bee attacks.
So is it still there?
Yikes. That bee colony is something. Cool, but kinda scary, too. Makes my advice to Kallie - they'll leave you alone if you leave them alone - seem kinda weak! Any trouble with them?
Wow. That would get my attention!
